Friday, December 2
9am – 4pm
Innovation Center (FL1-130)

A Canvas build day open house sort of thing:
Bring Your Own Device (there are a few computers in the IC that will be available for use)
Drop by any time & stay as long as you like
Build your Spring 2017 courses (or your Fall 17 ones)
Hang out and get some work done in a supportive atmosphere, surrounded by wonderful people

Students aren’t able to see their Final Calculated Grade until you release it.

To Release D2L Final Grades to Students:

1.  From Grades -> Manage Grades -> Enter Grades (in the dropdown menu next to Final Calculated Grade)

2. At the top of the screen, Final Grades -> Release All – the creepy, unblinking, all-seeing eye.

Note – If you have any Bonus items in your gradebook, and they belong to a category – for instance, an Extra Credit category – be sure that category is set up with “Can Exceed” checked, else the math won’t work out.

December 4 – D2L Crash Course
If you plan to spend your Winter Break working on your online or hybrid class, and want a crash course in D2L, this is the workshop for you.  The first half will be useful if you’re a beginner, and the second half if you’ve already got the basics down and want to do more.  If you plan to attend, please request a D2L course account (no later than 72 hours before the workshop) so you’ll have a place in which to work. Request a course account via the D2L Faculty Request Interface. Once you’ve completed your course account request, it’s important that you check http://d2l.losrios.edu to be sure the course is there prior to attending the workshop.  Note – these workshops will be repeated as part of Spring Flex activities on Thursday, January 14th.
9-11AM in FL1-35 (Library Classroom)
D2L for Beginners (9-10AM) – The basics:  D2L interface, content, requesting courses, support, etc.
D2L Intermediate/Advanced (10-11AM) – The rest:  Quizzes, communication tools, etc.

Notes:

Using Google Hangouts through Los Rios Google Apps

https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/apps.losrios.edu/wxxxxxxx?authuser=1

Replace the x’s with your id number, and it’s always best to be logged in to apps.losrios.edu prior to clicking the link. Personally, I use Chrome for apps.losrios.edu and Firefox for all Google things linked to other GMail accounts.  Once you start the Hangout, you will be able to invite individual users, or share the link in D2L. Students won’t need to use a private Gmail and you will be under the umbrella of Los Rios.
